UPDATE April 28th, 2009
408 Adoptions!
What a wonderful day! On Saturday, April 25th, 408 dogs and cats were adopted at the Spring Adoption Expo. Thousands attended, bringing hundreds of pounds of pet food for the Humane Society's food bank. If you were there, you know how difficult it is to see so many scared, homeless, pets looking for the perfect match. Fortunately we were able to watch a record number of these babies go home and big happy smiles ruled the day.

As the day wore one, a couple of dedicated volunteers moved two of their charges to the entrance area to get them more attention and boy did they work the crowd. Every time someone would approach them, they jumped up, wagging their tails furiously, putting on quite the show of what a loving and special pet they would be. In a bittersweet ending, one dog was adopted in the last hour while the other sadly layed down and watched them walk away. I'm not sure whether the Volunteer started crying of happiness for the dog who left or sadness for the dog who didn't, but one thing is certain... the dog who didn't get his person knew he had lost out.
Fortunately this fellow is in foster care and will have another chance at a happy ending... thousands of others will not be so lucky this year. So what can we do about it? Support Shelters not Breeders, spread the word about how important it is to Spay & Neuter our pets so the problem doesn't continue to grow and please donate to our Pet Adoption Expo fund so we can continue to hold these free events and get shelter animals the attention and homes they deserve. Working together, we all really can make a difference.
Special thanks to the ASPCA®'s Annemarie Lucas, popular host of Animal Precinct on Animal Planet, the Tampa Bay Lightning Cheerleaders and the Tampa Bay Rays for working so hard to make the Expo even more special.
As always, our sincerest thank you to the fantastic group of Volunteers and Rescue groups who put so much heart and soul into everything they do to help homeless pets.

Hundreds of Dogs and Cats find forever homes!
TampaPets.org / No More Homeless Pets, Hillsborough County and the ASPCA® hosted our bi-annual Pet Adoption Expo on Saturday, November 15, 2008.
More
than 30 animals rescue groups, including The Humane Society
of Tampa Bay and Hillsborough County Animal Services,
brought hundreds of cats and dogs for adoption. Mike Alstott
from The Tampa Bay Buccanneers, and Silver Medalist,
Zach Riley, of the 2008 US Olympic sailing team, came
out to support pet rescues in our community, signing autographs
and taking pictures with fans. The best part? The 5000 caring
members of our community who attended, adopting hundreds of homeless
cats and dogs and generously donating to help care for hundreds
more.
Ed Sayres, President of the ASPCA in New York, was on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony and to judge the booth decorating contest. There were many very enthusiastic participants so it wasn't an easy choice - congratulations to Suncoast Basset Rescue for their "royal" presentation. A special grant from the ASPCA is responsible for helping our animal welfare coalition make dramatic progress in reducing euthanasia rates in our community, turning Tampa Bay into a model for their work across the country. We can't thank them enough.
Best-selling Author, Marsha Boulton, hosted a "Wally Week" event, providing hundreds of valuable gift bags to adoptive familes. The Hillsborough County Veterinary Medical Society showed up in force to provide advice and an initial free exam to all adopted pets. Popular Dog Trainer and Talk Radio Host, Steve Pica from Dogs Gone Wild, offered free training tips and, as usual, Animal Control had free tags for any Hillsborough County pet. Of course, the biggest thanks goes out to all of the dedicated volunteers and grassroots organizations who are always willing to go the extra mile for our pet community. Their work saves thousands of lives every year.
Special thanks to:
